The Windsor Hotel is something of a landmark in Melbourne and
is Australia's only remaining grand hotel. As such, it is
classified by the National Trust. A multi-million dollar
refurbishment program, while updating the hotel's facilities,
has ensured that the Victorian grandeur and opulence of
the great hotel has been retained.
Visitors are able to inspect the Grand ballroom, ornate
foyer and wrought-iron staircase. Try to time your visit
for mid-afternoon as the afternoon teas (and sweets trolley)
at the Windsor are famous. From time to time, the hotel
has a "Ice Cream Indulgence Afternoon Tea", with
a selection of finger sandwiches, scones, jam & cream served
on a silver three-tiered cake stand. If you indulge in this,
don't plan for a big dinner!
