Flemington Racecourse,
one of the most beautiful racetracks in the world, is the setting
for Australia's most famous horse race, the Melbourne
Cup. Flemington is renowned for its Spring racing carnivals,
which is arguably the best racing festival of its type in the
world.
Four race meetings are held over an eight-day period, including
the melbourne Cup, Victoria Derby, AJ McKinnon Stakes and the
Victoria Oaks.
Flemington is also renowned for its fabulous roses,
which line the mounting enclosure and are in full bloom at the
running of the race. One of the interesting features of the racetrack
is the running of races down the "straight six", which
refers to races run on a straight 1200 metre section of track
that joins the course proper.
