Beacon
Cove is a new real estate development which was built on land that
was formerly part of the Port Melbourne docklands.
It comprises
architect-designed houses, streets lined with exotic palm trees
and high-rise apartment blocks overlooking the bay. A trendy supermarket
and adjoining gymnasium/health club are at one end of the development
opposite the Beacon Cove light-rail tramway station.
Nearby, an
old pub has been converted into a fashionable cafe. Rex Hunt's D'Lish
Fish take-away fish and chips shop is in strict contrast to
the new upmarket restaurants that have sprung up on nearby Station
Pier.
